For this year’s event we are excited and honoured to have Bob MacDermott join us as our Guest Speaker. Bob will be speaking after the dinner, talking about the challenges he overcame with his amputations.
“Inducted into the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame and touted the World Most Amazing Golfer (Golf Digest), the world renowned double amputee has dominated many disabled golf events around the world.
MacDermott was blasted with 14500 volts of electricity in a farming accident and was then thrown from an ambulance en route to the hospital in 1987. As he lay in the burn unit, one of his thoughts was that he would never play golf again.
He is the present Belvedere Senior Club Champion and has won a total of 9 Club Championships 4 mens and 4 senior championships. He is the still the present record holder with a 6 and under 65 in the 2003 Belvedere Men’s Clubs Championship followed up with wins in 2004 and 2005.
Last year he won the US National Senior Amputee Championships US National Multiple Championship, then Canadian National Amputee and the Canadian National Senior/Multiple Championship. He also won the EGA Senior Championship.
McDermott returned from the Capetown South Africa in May 2017, where he represented Canada along with a team mate winning Silver in Team and Golds in the Multiple and Arm Amputee Divisions. ”
